A new device designed for cold sore treatment, that was researched and developed in the UK, was released in the UK in 2008. Many people consider it a huge breakthrough in cold sore treatment because it was proven in clinical trials to reduce healing time for cold sores by as much as 50 percent. Additionally, it was effective on 99.5 percent of all cold sore sufferers.
It is a hand-held, portable, and lightweight device that uses an invisible, non-thermal band of near-infrared light. The manufacturer claims it will treat unlimited numbers of cold sore for three years and “that if used to treat 4 to 5 separate cold sore attacks, the recurrence of the cold sores is significantly reduced.” They also maintain it’s easier to use than cold sore creams and that it can be used on children.
The manufacturer has other claims. For instance, they assert that if the device is used at the first sign of a cold sore, it will prevent cold sores from erupting. Even if a cold sore has erupted, it still supposedly weakens the virus and reduces healing time. There is also no limit on how many times you can use the cold sore treatment device, and they’ve found no side effects or complications.
